Tablet mobile phone shipment exceeds Tablet PC

The latest forecast released by IDC, a market research company, shows that in 2014, the global shipment of tablet phones will reach 175 million units, higher than the expected shipment of 170 million portable computers. The company also forecasts that tablet smartphones will ship more than 318 million units in 2015, far higher than the expected shipment of 223 million tablets. Tablet phones are mobile phones with screen sizes ranging from 5.5 inches to 7 inches. They are a relatively new category of devices and have been listed in detail since 2012.

With the growth rate of 7-inch Tablet PC shipment declining, the industry began to clearly realize the pressure of tablet phone on the tablet market. IDC predicts that consumer interest in tablets will again focus on large screen tablets next year, which will also affect the future shipment of small screen products. Melissa Chau, project research manager at IDC, said: "we expect the tablet market to gain more attention as apple joins the campaign in the next few weeks and the big screen becomes the standard device for mobile phones.". IDC predicts that in 2014, in the global smartphone market, the sales share of tablet phones will increase by 14%; in 2018, the number will increase to 32.2%.

With the maturity of the intelligent networking equipment market and the growth of demand in emerging markets, the demand for tablet phones and ordinary smart phones will increase significantly. According to IDC's prediction, smart phones will account for 70% of the mobile phone market in 2014 and will increase to 75.6% in 2018. In the U.S. and Western European markets, consumers will have PCs, tablets and smartphones at the same time, and smartphones will be the preferred device for consumers to access the network. This trend will become more obvious in the future as the prices of smart phones and tablet phones fall sharply. In 2013, the average price of a tablet phone and a regular smartphone were $568 and $320, respectively, while IDC predicts that the number will drop to $397 and $291 in 2014.

"Obviously, in the field of mobile computing, consumers are still looking for the most suitable device configuration and screen size," said Tom mainelli, vice president of IDC's device and screen research project. "In the future, the screen of mobile phones will be larger, tablet computers will challenge PCs, and even smart watches will join the battlefield of smart devices."
